Two years after the nocturnal electronics of Statik, Actress has returned with a single that leans into grime’s urgency. “Live By You” pairs the adventurous London producer with CASISDEAD, an MC whose identity has long been a matter of speculation. The track, out now on Ninja Tune, lasts under two minutes but packs a restless energy.
CASISDEAD raps at a feverish pace, recounting past horrors while his voice cuts through layers of static, phasing in and out as if the transmission could break at any moment. The result is less a song than a fractured broadcast. There is no word yet on whether the single signals a larger project. For now, it stands as a brief, unsettled turn in Darren Cunningham’s catalog—one that sharpens the tension already present in his previous work.
