The former Dream Theater drummer steps in following Godsmack’s live-streamed performance at Mohegan Sun, marking a new lineup chapter for the band.
Godsmack has confirmed the addition of Mike Mangini as the band’s new drummer. The news arrives shortly after a live-streamed recap of their recent show at Mohegan Sun, where Mangini’s presence was evident.
Mangini is best known for his 13-year tenure behind the kit for Dream Theater, a role that followed an extensive career as a session player, educator, and technician. His landing with Godsmack places a precise, technically demanding player inside a long-established hard rock act known for its groove-oriented sound.
The change resolves the lineup question that followed the departure of Shannon Larkin, who had been the group’s drummer since 2002. Godsmack has not yet issued a separate statement detailing the timeline of the switch or Mangini’s official recruitment process, but the Mohegan Sun footage serves as a de facto introduction.
For a band that has rarely altered its core lineup over the past two decades, the move signals a tangible shift. Mangini’s style differs from the band’s previous rhythmic approach — more linear and clinically refined — which could reshape the dynamic of both live sets and any future studio work. No further announcements about touring or recording have been made.
