Modeselektor Reveal New Album MDSLKTR

The Berlin duo strip club-oriented electronics to their essentials on a 12-track record out January 22nd, with contributions from Siriusmo, Tommy Cash, Miss Platnum and others.

Modeselektor will release their new album, MDSLKTR, on January 22nd. The 12-track record is the Berlin duo’s most deliberately minimal work to date — an attempt to find the core of their club-rooted electronics by removing rather than adding.

Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary describe the process in direct terms. “We’re much more into finding out what’s left when you stop adding things and start taking things away,” they explain. “We weren’t trying to make perfect tracks. We were trying to make the most honest ones we could.”

The album pulls in a wide set of collaborators without letting the guest list dictate the sound: Kabeaushé, Siriusmo, Miss Platnum, Tommy Cash, Lars Eidinger and Gudrun Gut all appear, while Johannes Wagner, aka J.Manuel, serves as co-producer and writer. Single “AORTA” arrives as a functional statement of intent — a muscular track the duo call “a snapshot of the moment the album started showing itself to us.”

The tracklist moves from the bare digital pressure of “TRUSTME” and “DIESEL” through featured turns like “BAMBUS” with Siriusmo and “WOLF” with Tommy Cash, ending on “NOW” with Gudrun Gut. MDSLKTR is less a reinvention than a disciplined reset — Modeselektor reducing their language to what still holds.
