Neil Young Tribute ‘Heart of Gold’ Expands Into Double Album Release for Bridge School

Cinema Music Group and Killphonic Records will release two additional installments of the Neil Young tribute series “Heart of Gold” on November 6. “Vol. 2 – Out of the Blue” and “Vol. 3 – Into the Black” follow last year’s first volume, with proceeds continuing to benefit the Bridge School, the nonprofit Young founded with his late wife Pegi to support individuals with severe speech and physical impairments.

The new collections feature an eclectic set of interpretations. Contributors include My Morning Jacket, Lucinda Williams, Heart’s Ann Wilson, Peter Frampton, Los Lobos, Modest Mouse featuring Califone, Ben Gibbard, Cold War Kids, Kurt Vile and the Violators, MJ Lenderman, and LP. Two preview tracks arrived with the announcement: King Princess offers a stripped-down reading of “Helpless,” recorded in a single take at her father’s studio, and Draco Rosa reimagines “After the Gold Rush.”

“It felt kismet that they asked me to do ‘Helpless,’” King Princess said, noting it’s her mother’s favorite Neil Young song. “My only complaint about the original is that it’s too short. I want more.” Rosa described “After the Gold Rush” as “pivotal,” reflecting “the hope of finding a new home in the sun.” The Bridge School, marking its 40th anniversary this year, called the albums a reminder of the community that has supported its mission. The first “Heart of Gold” volume, released in April 2025, included Eddie Vedder, the Lumineers, Courtney Barnett, and others.
