Animal Collective Commit Two Shows to Feels, Their First Since 2022

Animal Collective have not played together since 2022, but that changes this fall with two dates built around a single album: Feels, from 2005. The band will perform the record in full at Knockdown Center in Queens on October 22 and at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on October 24. No other dates have been announced.

The shows follow a year of archival attention to Feels. A 20th anniversary reissue arrived with nine previously unreleased B-sides and demos, and Feels Live 04/05 documented a series of performances from the years just before the album’s release, compiled from MiniDisc recordings. Feels has long been treated as a turning point in the band’s shift toward more open, melodic songwriting; revisiting it live now carries a different weight than a routine catalog tour.

Since sharing Isn’t It Now? in 2023, the members have mostly worked apart. Panda Bear, Avey Tare, and Geologist have each released solo material, and Geologist teamed with Deakin on the soundtrack for Jetty, a documentary about rebuilding Rockaway Beach after Hurricane Sandy. These two Feels shows are the first sign of the group operating as a unit again — on material that predates their last decade by quite a bit.
