Becky G and Carlos Santana Receive Latin Grammy Song of the Year Nomination for “Mi Gran Amor”

Becky G has received a Latin Grammy nomination for Song of the Year with “Mi Gran Amor,” her collaboration with Carlos Santana. The track was released in May and places a Mexican-American singer alongside the Mexican guitarist for a story built from the lives of Latino immigrant families in the United States.

Becky G wrote the song with Santana, Edgar Barrera, Spreadlof, CASTA and Daniel Rondón. Barrera and Santana produced it. Its subject matter is the everyday work, sacrifice and resilience of Latino communities. The nomination is not simply a reward for a famous-name pairing. It points to a song with something more specific in mind.

The official video, filmed across Los Angeles and Las Vegas, follows the same line. It moves through everyday scenes and includes footage of Becky G speaking to 450 students at UC Santa Cruz’s annual Chicanx/Latinx Year-End Celebration. The community focus is at the center, not reduced to a line in an awards-season biography.

The nomination follows Becky G’s fifth studio album, “BARAJA BENDITA,” a 17-track project. Earlier this year she also appeared on aespa’s “LEMONADE” with Ty Dolla $ign and G-DRAGON. “Mi Gran Amor” places her in a much different setting, a cross-generational collaboration now heading into the Latin Grammys’ Song of the Year race.
