Bloodstock 2027 Headliners Include Mercyful Fate, Electric Callboy, Motionless in White

The UK metal festival announces an early summit of classic and modern acts, from King Diamond’s group to party-core and metalcore, plus a posthumous Children of Bodom appearance.

The first wave of names for Bloodstock Open Air 2027 tilts the Derbyshire festival toward an unusual generational mix. Mercyful Fate, the Danish band that carved black metal’s early silhouette, headlines alongside German party-core unit Electric Callboy and Pennsylvania metalcore mainstays Motionless in White. The announcement, delivered well in advance, sketches a lineup designed to pull from overlapping but often separate audiences.

Also included: Children of Bodom, whose appearance raises immediate questions given the 2020 death of frontman Alexi Laiho. The festival has offered no details on what form the set will take, but the name on the bill is enough to command attention among longtime extreme metal fans. Dethklok, the fictional death metal act from Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse, and New York hardcore stalwarts Madball flesh out the early roster, pointing to a weekend that values both irony-proof fandom and hardcore’s direct lineage.

Bloodstock has cultivated a reputation as the UK’s most reliable home for heavy music loyalists, often leaning on legacy acts and underground champions. Pushing a lineup with Mercyful Fate’s occult grandeur, Electric Callboy’s viral spectacle, and Motionless in White’s polished theatricality this far ahead of 2027 suggests a tactical pivot: staying rooted while acknowledging how festival crowds now assemble around disparate cultural moments. Further acts are expected in stages.
