The Nottingham band returns with a pointed look at routine existence, alongside details of their November LP via Submarine Cat.
Do Nothing have released ‘Act Natural’, the first single from their second album, ‘Friend World’, due in November on Submarine Cat. The track addresses the friction between automatic behavior and genuine presence, framed with the dry, rhythmic tension that marked the band’s earlier work.
Vocalist Jess Holt describes the upcoming record as heavier and more off-kilter than their debut. Its title comes from an unexpected source: the trapezoid. Holt noted the shape’s four-sided structure and pronounced slant as a fitting metaphor for the album’s skewed perspective.
The Nottingham group surfaced with 2023’s ‘Snake Sideways’, earning attention for their tight, angular post-punk and Holt’s spoken-sung delivery. ‘Act Natural’ extends that language while deepening its sense of unease, pushing against passive routine without sacrificing the band’s instinct for restraint.
‘Friend World’ will be available in November. Further details are expected in the coming weeks.
