Do Nothing Announce Second Album ‘Friend World’, Share New Single ‘Act Natural’

Do Nothing have released ‘Act Natural’, the second single from their forthcoming album Friend World, due 6 November on Submarine Cat. The track follows June’s ‘Stars’ and continues the band’s shift into more unsettled, less linear territory.

Frontman Chris Bailey has described the new record as freer than the debut. Where Snake Sideways still carried the pressure of expectation, this time the group felt no need to force a departure. They simply followed the ideas that felt most alive. The album title itself draws from Andy Kaufman’s old closer “This Friendly World,” a piece of face-value positivity that Bailey found almost impossible to read as anything but sarcasm. The record holds both the bleak and the strangely hopeful without choosing sides.

The Nottingham four-piece first drew attention with 2023’s Snake Sideways, built on angular post-punk and Bailey’s distinctive delivery. ‘Act Natural’ keeps that language of restraint while letting the tension deepen. The guitars lean woozy, the synths sit slightly off-balance, and the whole thing moves with a deliberate, slightly bloated unease. It pushes against automatic behaviour without ever raising its voice.
