The track previews her forthcoming album Dream House, which draws from the aftermath of the Altadena fires.
On ‘SYW’, Empress Of trades the sweeping strings of recent single ‘Wild Storm’ for a club pulse. The track, a collaboration with Cecile Believe, loops the phrase “say you wanna” into a slow-building release that tips into euphoric rush, mapping desire onto the dancefloor while capturing the push and pull of longing and loss. It’s the latest look at Dream House, her forthcoming album due 18 September, which follows 2024’s For Your Consideration.
The album was written after the destruction of Empress Of’s family home in the Altadena fires, a loss that threads through the record’s exploration of resilience and rebuilding. Across Dream House, she balances intimate songwriting with the expansive electronic sound she’s known for. Cecile Believe, a longtime collaborator also known for her work with SOPHIE, was involved throughout the making of the album.
