Euglossine Maps Club-Tinged Ambient on ‘Qualia’

Tristan Whitehill has spent more than a decade building a body of work as Euglossine that pulls from video game soundtracks, IDM, new age, and midi jazz. On Qualia, his first release with Tampa label Image Research, those interests shift toward club-informed electronics without losing the layered detail of his earlier records.

Image Research, run by Justin Myers (Justin Depth) and Hunter P. Thompson (Akasha System), gives the album a context distinct from the exploratory imprints Whitehill has worked with before. The result leans into dense grooves that move between humid Daytona dub and Everglade funk, with an emphasis on immersive sonic world-building.

“Chebyshev Poly,” the track highlighted from the release, sits closer to ambient techno. Glitchy beats and dreamy synths create a late-night mood, balancing club aesthetics with the kind of soundtrack logic that sets a visual scene. It does not announce itself loudly, but it establishes the album’s approach: shifting sonic environments held together by careful sound design.
