Four Tet has released a remix of The Durutti Column's "Your Shadow at Morning," a rework that runs close to ten minutes and is out now on London Records. The original comes from Renascent, the recent album by Vini Reilly's long-running project. Kieran Hebden's version keeps the vocal and the light, unforced touch of the source while opening the track out toward the dancefloor.
What Hebden has said about the timing is the most interesting thing here. "It's only in the last couple of years that I learnt about the The Durutti Column and explored their wonderful catalogue," he explained, adding that the new album's announcement thrilled him and that being asked to remix it "felt like the universe was confirming I was connected to this music." A producer known for his own delicate, sample-heavy constructions arrived late to a catalog built on exactly those qualities.
The Durutti Column has run for more than four decades as Reilly's project, a body of work defined by guitar lines that circle and hover. Renascent gave that catalog a new chapter, and a remix by one of the most recognizable names in British electronic music carries it to listeners who may never have typed the name into a search bar. The pairing is not as unlikely as it first looks: Hebden's records have always made room for melody and space, and Reilly's music is mostly space.
Hebden's own schedule keeps widening. ROMBO reported in March on a major Brooklyn headline show added to his 2026 tour, and a Manchester performance is planned for November. His archive reads as a map of a producer who treats collaboration as a way of changing his own sound, not decorating someone else's.
Listen for where the ten minutes go. A remix this long has to earn its length, and the test is whether the vocal phrase that anchors the original survives the stretch intact or turns into something else entirely. Hebden has kept it, and the song's understatement survives the trip to the floor.
