Gracie Abrams was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live's Halloween episode this weekend, performing two songs in costumes drawn from Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film Romeo + Juliet. The appearance came days after she announced a deluxe edition of her third album, Daughter From Hell, due November 20 via Interscope with five additional tracks.
Abrams opened with "Hit the Wall," the lead single and opening track from the album, released in July. She dressed as Claire Danes's Juliet in the angel costume from the film's fancy-dress party, and began the song standing behind an aquarium, recreating the moment Juliet and Leonardo DiCaprio's Romeo first see each other through the fish tank. She returned later as Romeo, in the character's Hawaiian shirt and the metallic sleeves of his knight's costume, for "Here You Come, There You Go," released Thursday and set to appear on the deluxe edition alongside "Lost In It," "Crazy Girl," "Love Letter" and "Out Of Nowhere."
The performance was Abrams's second turn as SNL musical guest, following her debut in December 2024. It also served as a preview of the expanded record, which follows her first number one album. The original Daughter From Hell, released July 17, was made with longtime collaborator Aaron Dessner of The National, and ROMBO noted how the record turned its scrutiny inward.
The costume choices are the story here. Abrams built both performances around specific frames from Luhrmann's film: the aquarium, the angel wings, the mismatched knight's sleeves. These are not generic Halloween nods but citations, and they place her alongside a lineage of pop performers who treat the screen as a second stage. The aquarium in particular is a staging decision, a physical prop that puts distance between the singer and the audience before the song begins. For a writer whose work trades on closeness and confession, starting behind glass is a pointed gesture.
The deluxe edition arrives November 20, and Abrams begins her 2026-2027 The Look At My Life Tour on December 2 at Denver's Ball Arena. The arena run reaches the UK and Ireland next spring, with four nights at London's O2 Arena and support from Rachel Chinouriri, Holly Humberstone, Del Water Gap, Jensen McRae and The Japanese House. "Here You Come, There You Go" got its first wide hearing on live television; the arena dates will reveal how much of that staging Abrams intends to carry with her.
