Hum have announced a 2027 reunion tour, their first proper run since 2015. The Champaign, Illinois band will play twelve dates across three short stretches, with the Life and Times opening every show and Pelican and Spotlights joining selected nights. Jason Gerken, of Shiner, returns on drums. Presales begin October 29 at 10 a.m. local time, with general on-sale the following day.

The run opens in the South: Atlanta on March 3, then Houston, Dallas and Austin in early March. Denver and Kansas City follow in April, and a May stretch moves through Philadelphia, Washington, New York and Boston, with Pelican on board for those four. July closes the tour in Seattle and San Francisco, where Spotlights join.

Gerken's place behind the kit carries its own history. He filled in for the late Bryan St. Pere on Hum's last tour in 2015, and St. Pere's death in 2021, at 51, brought all band activity to a halt. Hum reassembled earlier this year to headline Nothing's Slide Away festivals, playing songs from Inlet live for the first time. Those sets drew rapturous receptions, and the tour extends that return.

The path matters here. Hum spent the '90s shaping the sound of American heavy shoegaze, broke up in 2000, reunited in fits and starts, and released Inlet in 2020, a comeback album that stands with their best work. The current shoegaze revival runs straight through their catalog. ROMBO covered their first set since 2019 at Slide Away, where the Inlet material finally reached a stage. More on the band sits on ROMBO's Hum page.

What gives this announcement weight is the care in its scale. Short runs, a steady opener, a drummer who knows the songs and the history behind them: Hum are returning on their own terms, at their own pace. For a band whose influence long outran its output, twelve nights across a year read as a deliberate signal. The reception at Slide Away suggests the audience is waiting.
