Lava La Rue Jumps Into Speedy Wunderground With ‘Prince Of Bologna’

Lava La Rue has returned quickly after last year’s ‘Do You Know Everything (D.Y.K.E)’ EP, a project that reframed their identity as both artist and band. The new single ‘Prince Of Bologna’ is the result of a rapid session for Speedy Wunderground’s singles series, with label boss Dan Carey pressing record on a song built around snippets of overheard conversation and the playing of Tomasso Medica (Husky Loops).

The track leans on Lava La Rue’s alt adolescence, the production left raw enough to catch the urgency of the moment. Carey first saw them at Latitude Festival in 2021 and knew he wanted to work together. “I remember thinking that I’d seen the coolest person ever,” he says. “5 years later, I finally got to make a Lava La Rue Speedy Single!”

The accompanying video is an exercise in controlled chaos. Lava La Rue directed it, drawing on the logic that it’s easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission. With a camcorder and a handful of train tickets to Brighton, they and the band met up with local parkour runners Ziggi and Mitchy, who guided them to rooftops and getaway routes. The result is a low-budget narrative of shoplifting and escape, shot on the Sussex coast with the same impulsive energy that seems to have shaped the record itself. The seven-inch lands on July 30th.
