Netflix’s first look at Greta Gerwig’s Narnia adaptation arrives with a Led Zeppelin sync the band’s catalog rarely grants to film marketing.
The most notable decision in Netflix’s first trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is a licensing one. Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” scores the preview, a placement the band’s catalog very rarely permits for movie soundtracks.
That restraint is the point. Zeppelin have long kept their recorded output off soundtracks and out of most commercial contexts, so a trailer sync reads as an event in itself rather than routine clearance. Here it sits under the creation of Narnia, the visual effects doing the work the song’s long build was built for.
The film is Greta Gerwig’s first since Barbie, and she wrote and directed it from C.S. Lewis’s novel. The trailer introduces Digory Kirke, played by David McKenna, whose uncle, played by Daniel Craig, is the magician of the title. Meryl Streep voices Aslan. Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough, Susan Wokoma and Beatrice Campbell round out the cast.
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew opens in IMAX and standard theaters worldwide on February 12, 2027, with IMAX sneak previews from February 10. It begins streaming on Netflix on April 2, 2027.
What the trailer establishes is scale: an expensive literary adaptation, sold with a song its rights holders almost never lend out. Whether the film earns the song is a separate question, answerable only in February.
