Lightning Bug Announces Solo EP ‘In Between Things,’ Shares “Song for a…”

Audrey Kang pares Lightning Bug back to its solo origins on a new EP shaped by recent travels. The opening track, “Song for a…,” arrives with a hushed, searching calm.

Lightning Bug is once again a solo project. After the full-band 2024 album No Paradise, Audrey Kang has returned to the project’s original form, relocating from New York to Los Angeles and recording alone and with close collaborators.

The new EP In Between Things, out this summer, draws from Kang’s recent years of travel. Its opening track, “Feast,” first appeared last year as a fundraising demo for California wildfire recovery efforts. Now it anchors a record that moves through space and solitude.

Today’s single, “Song for a…,” co-produced by Kang with Sam Robertson and Ryan Richter, starts softly. Kang’s voice floats over a spare, patient arrangement that eventually swells into something heavier and less certain. It is the sound of a songwriter reacquainting herself with silence, and deciding what to fill it with.
