Lizzo and Sexyy Red Link Up for ‘Scary Movie’ Soundtrack With “Hoes”

The track arrives ahead of Lizzo’s next album and pulls the franchise’s original cast into a video that winks hard at its own history.

The sixth Scary Movie film, a reboot that keeps the title of the 2000 original, will carry a soundtrack entry from Lizzo and Sexyy Red. The song is called “Hoes,” and it rests on the idea that “the world would be boring as fuck without hoes,” a thesis delivered with the directness Sexyy Red has made her signature.

Its video puts the movie’s returning cast to use. Lizzo and Sexyy Red step into the “wazzup” bit that the first Scary Movie borrowed from a run of Budweiser commercials. The Wayans brothers, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall all appear, folding the track into the reboot’s larger gambit of reanimating its own early-aughts references. That the scene was already a parody the first time around doesn’t seem to bother anyone involved.

The song lands as Lizzo prepares a new album titled Bitch, which she’s been calling the start of “Bitch Summer.” Whether “Hoes” will live on the album or remain a soundtrack standalone hasn’t been confirmed, but the placement gives the single a lane outside her own rollout. For now, it’s tied to the movie’s attempt to reconstitute a dormant franchise by looking backward while pretending not to.
