The country singer canceled a stadium show citing severe wind threats that never materialized, then took to Instagram to address fan frustration.
Morgan Wallen’s last-minute cancellation of his Saturday concert at Acrisure Stadium drew sharp criticism after the severe weather he cited failed to arrive. The country singer called off the show a little after 1:00 p.m., warning of “severe adverse weather conditions expected throughout the rest of the day and night.” Storms did pass through the area in the afternoon, but by the scheduled 8:00 p.m. start, skies were clear. The Washington Wild Things, an independent baseball team, played their home game as planned and offered free admission to Wallen ticket holders, while some fans tailgated outside the empty venue.
Wallen addressed the backlash in an Instagram video late Saturday, saying his team had advised him to cancel after consulting local officials about strong winds. “I have a large stage that, in those conditions, could become fatal to a lot of folks around it,” he said, adding that he trusted the information he had at the time. He dismissed what he called “nonsense” speculation about his motives. Refunds are available at point of purchase, and his Still The Problem Tour resumes later this month in Chicago.
