Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue Reunite for a Rare Live Duet in Brighton

At Brighton’s Preston Park on Friday, two of Australia’s most distinct musical voices shared a stage again. Midway through Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ set, Kylie Minogue appeared to perform “Where the Wild Roses Grow,” the duet from Cave’s 1996 album Murder Ballads. It was the first time the pair had sung the song together live since Minogue’s 2019 Glastonbury set, where Cave guested. The Bad Seeds last performed it in 2018.

The moment was brief but carried weight. The song’s uneasy dialogue between a killer and his victim has long relied on the contrast between Cave’s grave delivery and Minogue’s clear, measured vocal. On Friday, that tension felt intact rather than nostalgic.

Earlier the same day, Cave and the band played a surprise rooftop concert atop Brighton’s Resident Music. The four-song set included “Train Long-Suffering” — a track from 1988’s The Firstborn Is Dead that hadn’t been performed live in 27 years before this tour — and a cover of T. Rex’s “Cosmic Dancer,” which Cave had previously only done solo.

The Bad Seeds’ Wild God 2026 tour continues through Europe until August 28, closing at Rock en Seine in Paris. Minogue has no further shows this year but recently confirmed plans for an extensive 2027 tour marking four decades in music.
