Nieve Ella Turns Toward Desire on New Single ‘Romance Is A Desert’

Nieve Ella has shared “Romance Is A Desert,” the latest preview of her debut album How Long Will It Take?, due 16 October via Artist Theory. Where earlier singles leaned into introspection and self-doubt, this one shifts toward something less guarded.

Built on dreamy synths and hazy indie textures, the track is direct about desire and the moment when feeling overtakes consequence. “It’s the light to the heavier, darker themes of the record,” Ella says. “It’s the loving side of me, who is simply happy to exist.” Produced by Jamie Rendle and co-written with Rendle and Finn Marlow, the song follows “Drive,” “Bite Back,” and “Standing On A Pane Of Glass.”

Across 11 tracks, How Long Will It Take? returns to questions of identity, relationships, self-worth, and the uncertainty of growing up, using an endless staircase as its central image. The single doesn’t resolve those tensions, but it lets them sit for a while.

Ella will take the album on her biggest headline tour this autumn, starting 4 November in Glasgow and reaching London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town on 17 November. “Romance Is A Desert” is out now.
