The Cardiff duo have signed to First Word and will release their new project this July, accompanied by a single that blends jazzy R&B with golden age production.
Cardiff duo papaya noon return with new music and a label deal. The pair have signed to First Word, the independent label that will release their new EP, ‘through the moods’, on July 16th.
Alongside the announcement, they’ve shared a new single, ‘on your side’. The track builds on the jazzy R&B of their previous offering, ‘blush’, anchoring a velvet vocal in a rock-solid club beat. Its production nods to golden age boom bap, lending their songwriting a sharp, musicianly feel.
Lyrically, the song tackles a breakup from an angle that sidesteps conflict. “It’s written from the perspective of a breakup,” the duo explain. “Someone is over explaining and justifying reasons for leaving, but you don’t need it. You’re on their side.” The result is a calm, clear-eyed farewell.
Papaya noon will mark the release with a launch show at The Old Queens Head in London that same evening. They’re also confirmed for this summer’s We Out Here Festival, bringing their live set to a wider audience as the EP arrives.
