RSD’s Black Friday 2026 list, out November 27th, is anchored by live recordings from the 1970s through the 2000s and comparatively light on new studio work.
Record Store Day has confirmed its Black Friday slate for Friday, November 27th, 2026, and the shape of it says something about what the limited-edition vinyl market now rewards. The largest items are not new albums. They are concerts.
Prince’s 3121 Las Vegas Live documents a January 20th, 2007 residency performance running past two hours across three LPs, with Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” and “Play That Funky Music” sitting among his own catalogue. Billy Joel Tonight preserves a December 5th, 1976 Connecticut College show recorded for his first television special, newly mixed in stereo with most of its multitrack material unreleased until now. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s Live at Tower Theater, Philly 1975 captures a New Year’s Eve set. Joni Mitchell’s Live at Carnegie Hall 1972 gets its first standalone vinyl pressing after appearing inside Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 3. Frank Black’s Teenager of the Year – Live applies the same logic to a 1994 solo record, replayed in full at the London Palladium.
The contemporary end of the list is thinner. Noah Kahan brings the four tracks from The Last of the Bugs deluxe edition to a 180-gram pressing, plus a 7-inch of “Draw You Out.” Florence + The Machine rework four songs from Everybody Scream as chamber arrangements on a 10-inch EP. Further down are Jeff Tweedy, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, KATSEYE, sombr, Ween and a four-LP Wicked soundtrack set.
The imbalance is the story. The format’s biggest single retail day is now anchored by performances that already happened, sometimes half a century ago.
