In a new interview, the Wu-Tang Clan leader outlined a shortlist of cultural figures he would like to see induct the group into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
RZA has revealed who he would choose to induct Wu-Tang Clan into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame later this year. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the group’s leader named Barack Obama as his first choice.
“I’m doing one that’s going to be super egotistical, but probably the only person that I’m a superfan of that I never met: Barack Obama,” RZA said. He described the former president as a top pick for the ceremonial role.
He offered a few other notable names from wider culture. He recalled Quentin Tarantino calling himself a “rock & roll director,” and suggested Leonardo DiCaprio and LeBron James as unique possibilities. The comments frame the impending induction as a cultural moment extending beyond music.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has not announced who will handle the induction ceremony for Wu-Tang Clan. The group is part of the 2024 class, which also includes Mary J. Blige, Cher, and Foreigner.
