Soulja Boy Says He Is Exploring a 2028 Presidential Run

The “Crank That” rapper used a Saturday evening social media post to float a White House bid, complete with a four-point platform and an image of himself in front of an American flag.

Soulja Boy says he is exploring a run for the presidency in 2028. The announcement arrived in a Saturday evening social media post, framed by an image of the rapper standing before an American flag and a message about “a new chapter. A bigger vision. A commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation.”

He also outlined what he called four priorities: economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and AI.

“From music to business to technology, I’ve always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible,” he said. “Now I’m exploring what it means to bring that same vision to public service.”

What exists so far is a tease, not a campaign filing, and the distance between the two is considerable. The post names no staff, no state strategy, no fundraising apparatus. It is a public statement of interest, made more than three years before the election and aimed at an audience that has watched rappers gesture at electoral politics before, usually without reaching a ballot.

Still, the technology plank is not arbitrary for him. Soulja Boy has spent the years since “Crank That” positioning himself as a businessman and early adopter, and the language of the announcement borrows from that register rather than from anything resembling a policy document. He notes that a win would make him the first rapper in the Oval Office.

For now the candidacy lives entirely in a caption and a photograph, which may be the point.
