Spiral XP Return With a New Lineup on Blue Earth

After a quiet stretch following their 2024 debut I Wish I Was A Rat, Spiral XP has returned with a changed formation. The Seattle band’s new EP, Blue Earth, arrives October 16 on Danger Collective and brings in Che Hise-Gattone and Bryan Coats, both from TV Star, the group behind one of Spiral XP’s early collaborative releases.

The title track is out now. Lena Farr-Morrissey says she wrote the lyrics in the van after a tornado, as a way of processing what happened. Hise-Gattone later brought a riff to the studio. “It was this very vibrant, loud riff, and I was like, ‘This feels tornado-y, so maybe those go together,’” Farr-Morrissey recalls. The video, directed by Hise-Gattone and Kailey Morales, accompanies the single.

The EP was produced with JooJoo Ashworth, whose work with SASAMI and Automatic points to a specific textural range. Across five tracks, Spiral XP pairs the new lineup with a leaner, storm-referencing immediacy. The tracklist includes “Out of Mind,” “Dreaming,” “Faith Electric,” and “Straightaway,” closing a short set that seems less about revival than recalibration.
