The 1965 classic returns with new mixes, unreleased sessions, and a previously unheard John Lennon song outline.
The Beatles’ archival series continues with a Super Deluxe edition of Rubber Soul, the 1965 album that captured the band’s accelerating creative shift. Produced once again by Giles Martin with engineer Sam Okell, the box set compiles a new stereo mix, the original mono mix, and a wealth of previously unreleased material: home demos, session recordings, and what the label describes as a “previously unheard John Lennon song outline.” An early recording of “Michelle” is among the previews made available today.
The new mixes were built using audio separation technology developed at Peter Jackson’s WingNut Films, the same process used for the 2021 documentary Get Back. The set also includes an 88-page book featuring an introduction by Paul McCartney. It arrives October 2 via Apple Corps.
Rubber Soul has long been regarded as a turning point, the moment the Beatles began pulling away from straightforward pop songwriting toward more adventurous structures and sonic detail. This edition pulls that transitional work into sharper focus, offering a closer look at its construction without inflating its myth.
