Bad Bunny Files to Recover Legal Costs After Copyright Victory

The artist seeks reimbursement of nearly half a million dollars in legal fees following a successful defense against a copyright claim.

Bad Bunny has moved to recover $465,000 in legal fees after a U.S. judge dismissed a copyright infringement lawsuit against him last month. The case concerned his 2022 track “Enséñame a Bailar” from the record-breaking album ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’.

The lawsuit, filed by Puerto Rican artists Elvin David and Joel Enríquez, alleged the song copied their 1995 track “Enseñame a Bailar.” The judge ruled the claims were without merit, finding no substantial similarity between the compositions. This post-trial motion is a standard procedural step following a decisive legal victory.

The filing underscores the significant financial burden of defending against copyright claims, even for prevailing artists. For Bad Bunny, the outcome reinforces a pattern of successfully challenging legal claims on his work, following a previous dismissal in a separate sampling case in 2023.
