The influential dance-punk group performed a surprise opening set at Baby’s All Right under a pseudonym.
The Rapture played a live show in Brooklyn last night. It was their first performance in the city in over a decade, and they did it under the radar.
The band appeared at Baby’s All Right billed only as “The Buzz,” opening for the artist Brutus VIII. The pseudonym allowed the influential dance-punk group to return to a small stage without the weight of a formal comeback announcement.
Their set drew from early material, including songs from their seminal 2003 album ‘Echoes.’ For a generation of fans who missed their initial heyday, it was a rare chance to hear tracks like “House of Jealous Lovers” in an intimate room.
The low-key booking reflects a current pattern where established acts test the waters with unadvertised shows. It sidesteps the machinery of a reunion tour, focusing instead on the immediate connection of a club performance. The move keeps the narrative on the music itself, at least for one night.
