The band began their performance with a prerecorded introduction from William Yates, who was recently injured in an alleged attack.
Turnstile opened their Friday night Coachella set with a personal moment, featuring a prerecorded video message from singer Brendan Yates’ father, William Yates.
The introduction came one week after Bill Yates underwent emergency surgery. He was injured in a physical altercation involving Brendan Yates’ former bandmate, Brady Ebert. Ebert is currently held on second-degree attempted murder charges, though he has claimed self-defense.
In the video played to the festival crowd, Bill Yates addressed the audience directly. “I’m Bill Yates, I’m the proud father of Brendan,” he said. “They’re all sons of mine. They’ve been practicing in the house for about 13 years now. Just recently they vacated the basement.”
The message served as a pointed, familial preface to the band’s performance, grounding their high-energy set in a real and ongoing personal context for the Yates family.
