Federal Jury Finds Live Nation and Ticketmaster Liable for Illegal Monopolization

A New York jury has ruled that Live Nation Entertainment illegally monopolized the live events market, a major verdict in a significant antitrust case.

A federal jury in New York has found Live Nation Entertainment and its subsidiary Ticketmaster liable for illegally monopolizing the live events market. The verdict represents a landmark outcome in a major antitrust lawsuit brought by more than three dozen states.

The states argued that Live Nation used its dominant market position to crush competitors and control the live entertainment industry. The company contested this view in its closing arguments, calling the states’ position unrealistic.

Judge Arun Subramanian will now oversee a separate proceeding to determine the remedies in the case. These could include monetary damages, mandated divestitures, or a potential breakup of the Live Nation and Ticketmaster conglomerate.
