Magdalena Bay’s ‘Imaginal Disk’ Film to Premiere at Tribeca Festival

The duo’s cinematic companion to their 2024 album, directed by Amanda Kramer, will have its world premiere in New York this June.

Magdalena Bay will present the film adaptation of their 2024 album ‘Imaginal Disk’ at the Tribeca Festival. The world premiere is scheduled for June 4 at New York’s Spring Studios.

The project, described last year by members Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin as their most ambitious to date, transforms the avant-pop record into a cinematic experience. It was directed by their frequent visual collaborator Amanda Kramer, known for feature films like ‘Ladyworld’ and music video work for artists including My Morning Jacket.

The film’s inclusion at Tribeca marks a significant step for the duo, moving the album’s conceptual world from audio into a dedicated festival space. It follows the pattern of their highly integrated visual and musical output, but on a larger narrative scale.
