D4vd Formally Charged With First-Degree Murder

The 21-year-old artist, born David Anthony Burke, faces life without parole for the killing of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

David Anthony Burke, the 21-year-old musician known as D4vd, will be formally charged with first-degree murder. The charge is in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

Hernandez’s body was discovered last September in the trunk of an abandoned Tesla registered to Burke. The car had been parked in the Hollywood Hills for over a month. Burke was arrested in Los Angeles County last week.

District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman stated the murder charge includes special circumstances. These are lying in wait, committing the crime for financial gain, and murdering a witness to an investigation. Burke faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The DA noted the death penalty may also be considered.

The case marks a severe legal turn for the alt-pop artist, whose music had gained significant online traction in recent years.
