Days after the release of Your Favorite Toy, Foo Fighters brought two new songs to the SNL UK stage for the first time. Dave Grohl also made a quick appearance during host Nicola Coughlan’s monologue.
Foo Fighters appeared as musical guest on the April 25 episode of SNL UK, playing two tracks from the band’s just-released album Your Favorite Toy. Both “Caught In The Echo” and “Child Actor” were performed live for the first time. The appearance landed less than a week after the record arrived, making the broadcast something of a release-week marker rather than a standalone moment.
The show was hosted by Nicola Coughlan, who had a cameo during Tina Fey’s monologue in the SNL UK premiere last month. This time, Coughlan’s own monologue featured Jimmy Fallon, who showed up unannounced to offer hosting tips, and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, who stepped out briefly in a nod to his own long history with the American SNL. Grohl has been a musical guest on the original series more than a dozen times, a fact the episode treated as a quiet touchstone rather than a talking point.
The performances themselves were straightforward. No elaborate staging, no banter, just the band working through the songs with a tight, practiced ease. “Caught In The Echo” carried the kind of mid-tempo weight the album leans into heavily, while “Child Actor” stretched out a bit, letting the rhythm section drive. It wasn’t a spectacle, which is precisely what made it notable. The band had new material, a late-night slot, and enough experience to know that simply playing them was enough.
