The transaction ends a search for a buyer that began after NI filed for preliminary insolvency earlier this year.
InMusic has confirmed a definitive agreement to purchase Native Instruments. The deal brings the Berlin-based software company into the same stable as Akai Professional, Moog Music, Denon DJ, Numark, Rane, and M-Audio. iZotope, Plugin Alliance, and Brainworx, all previously absorbed into Native Instruments, are included in the transaction.
The acquisition follows a particularly turbulent period for Native Instruments. Once a dominant force in music software with Reaktor, Kontakt, and Maschine, the company struggled with internal restructuring, layoffs, and a shifting market. Early this year it entered a preliminary insolvency proceeding and began actively seeking a buyer. InMusic, a brand aggregator with deep roots in hardware manufacturing, emerged as the suitor.
A statement from InMusic references earlier collaborations between the two companies and frames the purchase as a commitment to continuity. For users, the consolidation raises practical questions about future development of NI’s product lines and the fate of its subscription and licensing models. For the industry, the move further concentrates music technology under a shrinking number of owners.
