Allison Russell Announces New Album ‘In the Hour of Chaos,’ Shares First Single

The singer-songwriter’s third LP arrives July 10 via Fantasy Records. “Cold April” features Kara Jackson, Denitia, and Russell’s daughter’s choir.

Allison Russell’s third studio album, In the Hour of Chaos, has a release date. It comes out July 10 on Fantasy Records. The announcement follows The Returner, the record that gave Russell a wider audience and multiple Grammy nominations two years ago. That project’s collaborative approach carries into the new work. The first single, “Cold April,” features vocals from Kara Jackson and Denitia, along with the Explore! Pop Choir, a group that includes Russell’s daughter Ida.

Russell does not frame the song as a list of grievances. “Things are rough. Things have been rough before,” she says. “‘Cold April’ is not laying out the grim facts of the moment.
