Noah Kahan’s SNL Return, Now With a Chart-Topping Album

Two and a half years after his breakout SNL debut, Noah Kahan returned to the show as the owner of a #1 album. His performances of “The Great Divide” and “Doors” captured an artist in a different mode.

Noah Kahan performed on Saturday Night Live for the second time this weekend, two and a half years after his debut. The setting looked different. In 2023, he arrived with “Stick Season,” a breakout single that had just begun to reshape his career. This time, he stepped onto the stage with a number one album already behind him.

The Great Divide, released in late April, entered the Billboard 200 at the top spot. On the show, Kahan played its title track and “Doors,” two songs that extend the grounded, narrative-driven style he has sharpened since moving past the viral folk-pop of his early work. The performances were straightforward, no theatrical staging, just a band and Kahan’s voice carrying the weight of the material.

Host Matt Damon led an episode that opened with a political sketch and closed with the usual ensemble bow. But Kahan’s slot felt like its own small marker: an artist whose SNL moment now reflects a more established reality. When he first played the show, the question was whether he could translate streaming numbers into a durable audience. The answer, two and a half years later, looks increasingly settled.
