The Drain Gang rapper shifts toward uplifting dance music with production from swedm®, trading introspection for opulence.
Thaiboy Digital has always embodied a kind of stubborn optimism. As a member of Drain Gang, he helped define the internet’s favorite cloud rap variant. But on his new collaboration with Swedish producer swedm®, titled ‘Paradise,’ he’s not leaning on that legacy. He’s moving away from the collective’s signature melancholy and stepping directly onto a brightly lit dance floor.
The timing aligns with a broader revival of earnest festival EDM. Thaiboy, recognizing this, lets his mantra-like delivery ride over pearlescent synths and superclub-sized beats. The lyrics deal in opulence and romance, not deep self-examination. His voice, often half-sung and looped, feels like a keepsake from a night you can’t quite remember.
swedm®’s production gives Thaiboy a clean, propulsive backdrop that’s less cloud rap and more peak-time trance. The track’s structure is simple, built for repetition and collective elation. There’s a directness here that Drain Gang material often avoids
