Pixar announced the Puerto Rican artist will voice the new character in the upcoming chapter, a small but fitting turn for a screen career that rarely follows the obvious path.
Pixar confirmed on May 26 that Bad Bunny has joined the voice cast of Toy Story 5. He will play Pizza with Sunglasses, a new character revealed alongside a short animated teaser posted to the studio’s Instagram account. The announcement lands as a natural footnote to a screen trajectory that has leaned away from music industry playbooks.
In recent years, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio has worked with Adam Sandler on Happy Gilmore 2, appeared in Darren Aronofsky’s crime drama Caught Stealing opposite Austin Butler, and lined up Porto Rico, the upcoming feature directed by Residente. Those choices have carved out a deliberately uneven filmography, and stepping into a Pixar franchise extends the pattern without breaking it.
The connection to the Toy Story universe is not random. During the early lockdown months of 2020, Bad Bunny turned his social feeds into a small homemade cinema. Using his own collection of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Rex and Forky figures, he filmed and voiced every character in a series of short videos he called Toy Story in the Times of Coronavirus. The clips were low fidelity and genuinely odd, closer to a bored-at-home compulsion than a branded stunt. That personal history makes the official casting feel more like a thread picked up than a celebrity marketing pivot.
Toy Story 5 brings back Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack as Woody, Buzz and Jessie. Pixar describes a story in which the toys struggle for main character Bonnie’s attention against the pull of modern technology, including a new device called the Lilypad. The film opens in U.S. theaters on June 19.
