Disturbed’s David Draiman Says New Music Is “Diverse, Fresh, and Powerful”

The band has been posting teasers since December. Now the frontman offers a first description of the sound.

Disturbed have been dropping hints about new music since the tail end of last year. A string of teaser posts, brief studio clips and cryptic messages started appearing in December, keeping fans watching for any sign of a follow-up to 2022’s Divisive.

Now David Draiman has offered the first direct description of the material. In a recent statement, the frontman called it “diverse, fresh, and powerful.” The three words are hardly a detailed breakdown, but they do suggest the band is aiming for something that shifts gears while holding onto their core sound.

Disturbed have spent the past two decades as one of heavy music’s most reliable arena acts, never straying far from their signature blend of crushing riffs and Draiman’s unmistakable vocals. Divisive, their eighth album, arrived in November 2022 and saw the band sticking firmly to their formula. The next record, whenever it surfaces, might stretch that formula in new directions if Draiman’s comment holds weight.

No release date, tracklist, or title has been confirmed yet. For now, the teasers continue, and “diverse, fresh, and powerful” is the only official phrase attached to the project. Whether that means experimentation or just a refined version of what they do best remains to be heard.
