Kallohonka’s “Psychic Surgery” Video Documents a Corner of Texas Noise

Shot live at Dallas’s Double Wide, the clip captures the band’s punishing debut album Lazer Blood in a raw, communal setting.

The video for “Psychic Surgery,” a track from Texas noise outfit Kallohonka’s debut album Lazer Blood, is a document of the band in its element: a cramped stage, flashing lights, and a sound that tilts between psychedelic assault and confrontational performance. Shot at Dallas venue Double Wide, the footage places vocalist Amie Carson, bassist James Magruder, guitarist Jason Mullins, and drummer Alec Rabb in full regalia, joined by a trumpet player and additional vocalists whose shrieks and wails push the chaos further.

The clip, shot by Justin Powers, Magruder, and Bryan “Wally” Walior and edited by Powers, arrives months after Lazer Blood was released in March via Memory Terminal Records. It doesn’t attempt a narrative or polished treatment; instead, it leans into the unhinged energy that has drawn comparisons to the Butthole Surfers’ early freakouts. Bassist James Magruder described the video in characteristically cryptic terms: “Witness the Chaos, Exultation, and Catharsis of Kallohonka. Become a corvine wizard! An anarchist shopping cart! A 12-foot teetering wheel of pizza! You can be anything, really.”

What emerges is a snapshot of a band that thrives on volume and friction, offering a raw entry point to their abrasive sound long after the album’s initial release.
