The track draws directly from the fear of “Gestapo-like tactics” in Los Angeles neighborhoods, according to Tankian.
The new collaboration “Adjourn It” is a direct response to recent ICE raids in Los Angeles, according to vocalist Serj Tankian. Joined by guitarist Tom Morello and artist Roman, Tankian says the song was conceived in a moment of acute crisis. “It was inspired by when the streets of L.A. were being terrorized by Gestapo-like tactics, people combing through the neighborhoods, businesses having to shut down,” he explained in a statement accompanying the release.
The track lands as the city continues to navigate aggressive federal immigration enforcement, with reported sweeps disrupting daily life in immigrant communities. Tankian, whose political outspokenness has long shaped his work with System of a Down, and Morello, known for decades of leftist activism from Rage Against the Machine onward, frame the song not as symbolic protest but as an immediate reaction to what Tankian calls an “absolute reign of terror on our city.”
No further details about the single’s release format or proceeds have been announced, but the alliance of these three figures gives the track a rare urgency. Roman’s role adds a less familiar voice to the project, grounding it in the current L.A. underground. The focus remains squarely on the street-level reality that prompted the recording.
