One Dead After Fall at Goose’s Madison Square Garden Concert

A 51-year-old man died Saturday night after falling from an elevated position inside the arena during Goose’s sold-out show. The NYPD is investigating, while the band expressed heartbreak and extended sympathy.

A man fell to his death Saturday during Goose’s concert at Madison Square Garden, the second fatal fall at a New York-area jam band show in recent years. The 51-year-old concertgoer, who has not been publicly identified, fell from an “elevated position” inside the arena to a lower tier around 9:51 p.m., according to the NYPD. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital and pronounced dead.

The incident remains under investigation. The band, in a statement after the show, said they were “deeply saddened and heartbroken” and thanked emergency personnel and venue staff for their care. The concert, the second of two sold-out nights, proceeded without interruption, including a full set and encore that streamed on Amazon Music.

Witnesses on social media reported that roughly seven rows of the lower section where the man landed were taped off by police, and attendees from those rows were relocated elsewhere in the venue. Goose is still scheduled to perform Sunday at Central Park SummerStage.

Saturday’s death recalls a similar incident in August 2021, when a man in his 40s died after falling from an upper balcony at Citifield during a Dead & Company show. Police said at the time that he had attempted a body flip and landed on the balcony below. No further details were immediately available about the circumstances surrounding the fall at Madison Square Garden.
