The rapper returns to the producer formerly known as Kenny Beats on RX, a project shaped while filming her acting debut and touring last fall. “Cupcake” is the first glimpse.
The announcement of a new Rico Nasty album is not, on its own, a surprise. The energy that made her early work compelling has been scattered across recent projects, and the question of focus has lingered. RX, out July 24 on Sugar Trap, answers it directly: she’s gone back to the producer who helped define her sound, Kenneth Bloom, the artist widely known as Kenny Beats.
The reunion was personal before it was creative. “I missed someone that was honest with me,” Rico Nasty said in a statement. “Somebody who’s not too serious or draining.” Bloom’s framing mirrored hers: “From the day we met, no one has made me laugh harder or pushed me further out of my comfort zone.” The album was recorded while she was shooting her role in the AppleTV+ series Margot Got Money Troubles and during her 2025 fall tour, a period that lacked obvious room for studio work.
The single “Cupcake” shows a more polished palette than their earlier collaborations. Cascading synths and condensed bass replace the more abrasive textures of her past.
