The comedian returns to the character that launched his career, reportedly filming a feature without public notice. Details remain sparse, but the project follows a familiar format of concealed cameras and unsuspecting targets.
When Sacha Baron Cohen goes quiet, it’s rarely without reason. A new report confirms the comedian has revived his Ali G persona for a film shot entirely in secret. The project, reported by Variety, arrives after an earlier plan for an Ali G stand-up tour in 2023 never materialized. That live concept appears to have evolved into this new feature.
The format is likely familiar: Cohen, as the bumbling interviewer, ambushes real people—celebrities, politicians, ordinary citizens—into revealing their own absurdity. It’s a method he sharpened across Da Ali G Show and the two Borat films, the latter earning him Academy Award nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay. His dramatic work, too, has been recognized; he picked up a supporting actor nod for The Trial of the Chicago 7.
Cohen’s ability to use humor as a mirror to power and prejudice remains unmatched, but the cultural landscape has shifted since Ali G first wore yellow track suits on Channel 4. Social media, viral outrage cycles, and heightened political tension make blunt satire a trickier needle to thread. Whether the character still works—and who exactly the targets are—is unknown. For now, the project exists as a confirmation, nothing more.
