Boy George Removed from Bandcamp, Splits with Label Manager Over AI-Made Political Track

Boy George’s latest track, an AI-made statement of support for Israeli military actions, has led to his removal from Bandcamp and the end of his working relationship with longtime label manager Tony Pontius.

The former Culture Club frontman confirmed on social media that his Bandcamp profile was taken down after he uploaded “We Will Dance Again.” The song includes lyrics such as “You say genocide/ I say war” and dismisses criticism as “propaganda fueled by the internet.” Boy George had been open about using artificial intelligence to create the track. Bandcamp’s policy prohibits music “that is generated wholly or in substantial part by AI,” which may have triggered the deletion, though the singer responded with frustration, calling the platform “a bunch of c^^^s” and calling the move “very disappointing.”

The Bandcamp action was not the only fallout. Days later, Boy George announced he had “parted company” with Pontius, manager of his BGP label, because Pontius “was unequivocal” in refusing to release the song. Boy George said he responded, “we are done,” and added that in Buddhism, “every action comes with a consequence,” noting he is “losing a few people from my life” over the decision.

The singer had also been pulled from a London production of Jesus Christ Superstar, where he was to play King Herod, shortly after releasing the song online.
