UK metalcore group Long Goodbye have quickly positioned themselves at the forefront of the early-2000s metallic hardcore resurgence. Their new EP, A Whispered Promise of Failure, strips back any remaining melodic fat but, in doing so, sacrifices the dynamic contrast that once set them apart.
Drawing from the Poison the Well and Converge playbook, the band emphasizes chaos over prettiness. Vocalist Patrick Morton delivers throat-shredding false-cord screams, and the songs avoid the clean-sung passages that punctuated earlier releases.
