phoanøgramma’s ‘dream flow’ Unfolds as a Single, Shifting Form

Angelo Panebianco and Matteo Mariano, recording as phoanøgramma, have released dream flow, a single long-form composition divided into six tracks for navigation. Conceived as an uninterrupted whole, the piece operates through serial procedures, recurring materials, and gradual transformation. Sounds reappear in altered forms, as though recalled from memory rather than mechanically repeated.

The album opens with “raindrops (prelude),” where rhythmic droplets dissolve into bubbling textures and broad harmonic drones before an insistent metallic edge creeps in. Darker currents surface in “arise in sinking feelings,” and “fractures” stretches into glacial space, deep resonances layered with minute electronic activity. In the second half, machine-like chatter and circuitry emerge in “where things are hollow,” then recede, while the closing “the vanishing” quietly reintroduces the droplets from the opening, tracing a circular trajectory.

The duo’s previous collaborations—the void on a distant sun (2023) and limen memoriae with Luca Ferro (2024)—often engaged with memory, distance, and liminal states. dream flow extends those concerns in a more fluid, immersive mode. Rather than a set of discrete pieces, the album unfolds as a single shifting process, where texture, density, and perception are constantly renegotiated.
