Women That Rock Takes Its Mission on the Road

The live series from Women That Rock, a discovery platform for femme artists, is leaving its New York base for the first time. A five-city run will feature songwriters Abby Holliday and Charli Adams, starting in Washington D.C. on August 7 and moving through Brooklyn, Boston, Chicago, and Nashville, ending August 15.

Founder Andie Aronow launched the organization in 2018 after repeatedly seeing the numbers that sit beneath surface-level conversations about representation. She points to recent data from the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative: across 13 years of popular music, more than 93% of charting songs had no woman producer. Women accounted for 37% of artists on the year-end Hot 100, 18.9% of songwriters, and just 5.9% of producers. “Under the surface, the percentages are still pretty abysmal in terms of the market share of opportunities for women,” she says.

Aronow’s own background is not a straight line. She sang jingles for Hasbro and Kidz Bop as a child, then studied at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute. Internships and jobs at the Recording Academy, Geffen Records, and Mom + Pop Music followed. In each role, she says, femme artists kept approaching her for advice and resources—a pattern that eventually made Women That Rock a structure, not just an instinct. The platform now combines online artist spotlights with a steady concert series.

The summer tour is modest in scale, but it extends a model that was built quietly, without institutional backing, and has already made space for artists who remain underrepresented even as a few headliners dominate the top of the charts.
