Eighth Tower Reissues Witchcraft & Black Magic in the United Kingdom with New Material

Eighth Tower Records has reissued Witchcraft & Black Magic in the United Kingdom in an expanded edition, adding exclusive tracks from Dead Voices On Air, Mario Lino Stancati, and 400 Lonely Things. The Italian label has spent years mapping occult, divine, and supernatural themes through collective releases from a close circle of sound artists.

The compilation focuses on a specific historical thread: witch hunts in Puritan Anglican Britain, especially during the English Civil War and the campaigns of Matthew Hopkins. That era has been widely represented in iconography and film, from Witchfinder General to Blood on Satan’s Claw, but here it becomes the structural backdrop for dark ambient and post-industrial work.

The expanded version keeps the 2019 edition’s approach while widening its range. Rapoon’s “The Village” unfolds like a fogged soundtrack cue, with echoing acoustic strings and a slow, ominous build. Howlround’s “Crypt of Saint John” pushes toward distorted hauntology, closer to ghosted texture than overt melody. The label, run by Raffaele Pezzella (Sonologyst), has built its reputation around this kind of subterranean electronic sound.
