John Baizley Joins Mastodon’s Live Lineup for Fall Tour

John Baizley will join Mastodon’s live lineup for the band’s fall tour, stepping in after an underplay in Atlanta. The Baroness vocalist and guitarist will be part of the stage setup as Mastodon revisits some of its older material.

The collaboration places Baizley alongside a band that has worked in the same wider sphere of progressive and Southern-influenced heavy music. His role, as announced, is to help carry classic Mastodon songs through the upcoming run of dates, adding a second established voice to the live presentation.

Baizley’s presence carries its own history. As the central figure in Baroness, he has defined a specific melodic and visual language in American metal. That context makes his appearance with Mastodon feel less like a random substitution and more like a convergence of two longstanding figures from adjacent scenes.

The Atlanta underplay, a smaller-capacity show, appears to have set the stage for this fall configuration. With the tour now approaching, the live versions of Mastodon’s older material will take on a slightly different shape.
